You can’t exactly complain about not finding bagels at 3 AM if you’re in NYC.

I lived there for three years. I was ready to GTFO after 2 years 11 months.

What is so bad about New York? If I ever had to move from Sao Paulo, NYC is one of the only places I’d like to live in.

Nothing’s wrong with nyc, especially if you ask a new York city resident

As a New York resident,

Everything.

It’s a crowded, noisy hellhole filled with rude people.

I can count the number of times I’ve wanted a bagel at 3 AM on exactly zero fingers.

But those are good things, noisy and crowded means there’s always stuff to do, Sao Paulo is like that, If I want polish food at 3:35 AM I can probably find it here, or in NYC. Also, I hate people that are overly polite and smiling all the time.

I mean, that was a just an example, but I’ve had quality sushi delivered in the middle of the night more times than I can remember.

NYC is the world’s most economically important city, but its problems are typical of any dense urban area. Overcrowding and a huge wealth/poverty gap lead to an urban culture that tends to be cold, bitter and even rude at first blush. A small-town person who sees about 15 other people every day is going to be much more chatty and pleasant than one who pushes and shoves through 1,000 people every morning commute. That’s just life in the context of environment.

But the sheer amount of cultural/entertainment/education things going on in the big cities keep people coming in.

Someone who hated living in New York would likely have hated living in any of the world’s major cities.

I prefer to live just outside of a major city. More space with convenient access to the city itself.

I don’t know what it is you want out of life, but in the middle of the night I’m usually asleep. I don’t want bagels, or Polish food, or sushi. I’m not going to live in a dense, crowded shithole filled with people and noise and anger and hatred just so I can get ethnic food at a time I’m asleep and don’t feel like eating.

I sleep alright, I live just beside a park.
